Why Do I Need to Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

While not everyone will experience dental problems related to their third molars, others can experience serious complications. People may experience teeth erupting at an improper angle. Others may not have enough room in their jaw to accommodate more teeth. If left untreated, these teeth can cause oral hygiene complications. Over time, issues such as tooth damage can occur, which could lead to tooth extraction and the need for dental implants. To prevent such issues, our dentists can perform wisdom tooth removal treatment at our Old Bridge, NJ, dentistry.

Symptoms of Impacted Wisdom Teeth

There are common warning signs you can keep an eye out for that indicate you might need your wisdom teeth removed:

Bad Breath

Chronic bad breath or a persistent bad taste in your mouth is often a signal of infection. This can be caused by impacted wisdom teeth or from teeth growing in incorrectly.

Inflamed Gums

Wisdom teeth can cause irritation, which can cause gum tissue to swell. Not only is this painful, but it can also lead to gum disease.

Cavities

The back of your mouth is difficult to reach. If not properly taken care of, cavities can easily form on the wisdom teeth. Decay can then spread quickly to other teeth, leading to other health issues.

Sinus Issues

Wisdom teeth in the upper jaw may cause sinus pain, headaches, or congestion.

Crooked Teeth

Many people experience wisdom teeth growing in at an angle. This puts pressure on other teeth and can cause them to shift
