Conceal Cosmetic Imperfections in a Single Appointment with Dental Bonding
Cosmetic imperfections like stains, chips, or unevenly sized teeth can make you feel self-conscious about even the healthiest smile. At NÜVA Smile, our dentists want you to truly love your appearance. Dental bonding is a great cosmetic option for many patients because it is more conservative and cost-effective than porcelain veneers. In most cases, we can complete bonding in a single appointment at any of our newly renovated practice locations in New Jersey.
What Is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding uses composite resin, the same material used to create tooth-colored fillings, to conceal concerns on the surface of your teeth. The material is carefully tinted to match the color of your surrounding teeth and provide incredibly natural-looking results.
Candidates for the Procedure
Bonding is recommended for many patients because it can cover a wide range of imperfections, including:
- Small cracks
- Minor gaps
- Chips
- Intrinsic discoloration
- Misshapen teeth
- Disproportionately sized teeth
Dental bonding is also a good fit for many patients who do not have enough enamel left for porcelain veneers treatment.
Benefits of Bonding
Bonding offers many benefits for patients because it is:
- Comprehensive: Dental bonding can improve the shape, size, and color of your teeth all at once.
- Cost-Effective: In general, dental bonding is much more affordable than porcelain veneers.
- Quick: While veneers treatment typically spans two or more appointments, dental bonding can be completed in one short visit.
- Conservative: Dental bonding does not require major alteration to your natural tooth structure and is completely reversible.
Best of all, bonding can give you improved self-confidence when you speak, laugh, and smile.
The Bonding Process
In most cases, dental bonding can be completed in a single appointment lasting under one hour.
Preparation
The first step in the bonding process is your initial consultation. During this visit, you will meet with one of our doctors to review your concerns and determine whether bonding is right for you. If you value highly aesthetic results over your time or budget, for example, porcelain veneers may be a better option for you.
Dental bonding is a great cosmetic option for many patients because it is more conservative and cost-effective than porcelain veneers.
In most cases, we also recommend professional teeth whitening prior to dental bonding. This allows us to match the color of the composite resin to your teeth when they are at their absolute whitest.
Otherwise, the preparation for dental bonding is fairly minimal. Bonding does not require your teeth to be reshaped as veneers or crowns do. Instead, your doctor will lightly etch the surface of your affected teeth to create a better bonding surface prior to the procedure.
Placement and Curing
Once the treated tooth or teeth have been prepared, your doctor will carefully apply the material. Your doctor will then shape the resin, smooth its surface, and harden it using a curing light. The doctor will complete the treatment by polishing the surface of the newly bonded tooth to achieve the most natural-looking texture.
Aftercare
No recovery time is needed after the bonding procedure, and most patients can return to their normal activities immediately afterward. You can care for your newly bonded teeth the same as your untreated teeth. In addition to practicing good oral hygiene at home to maintain the brilliance of your results, you should visit our practice twice a year so that our doctors can check the structural integrity of the restorations.
